$25 Challenge - From the notebook

Sunday November 16, 2008

While in the mist of school, I begin what I'm sure will be a tough couple of weeks. I didn't have any coffee today. Coffee costs money of which I wouldn't be able to afford and I figured that it would be best to deal with the withdrawal now and not when I'm worried about hunger later this week.

I'll have to do some planning as well:
- research food prices
- make list
- On Wednesday, go shopping

Three days- that doesn't leave me much time.

One more day until I start this challenge. I don't know what will effect me more: the lack of food or the lack of caffine. I plan to go shopping during my lunch hour and tonight, my mother and I are going out to dinner as a kick-off meal. She's going to do the Challenge as well so there's nothing like junk food and portion control to bring us two closer together.

Ideas for meals:

- spaghetti/sauce
- peanut butter/ bread
- cereal / milk
- ramen noodle
- Mac & Cheese
- canned/frozen veggies
- Meat? /beans
- eggs?
- apples or oranges

Why go to Aldi?
- I don't have to bother with coupons. The time to clip isn't exactly top of my list at the moment
- Close by in Wallingford
- Cheap!
- I looked at reviews and, for the most part, reviews for the stores are good. Quite a few bad reviews but usual in their complaints (I have to pay for a shopping cart?!, bad quality in foods, etc.)

Nutrition
My Pyramid Plan from www.mypyramid.gov

Based on my specifics, daily recommended intake:
Grains - 6 ounces
Veggies - 2.5 cups
Fruits - 2 cups
Milk - 3 cups
Meat & Beans - 5.5 ounces

Why are the things I can afford only in ounces!!
