Salmon River/ Day Pond Park
5.1 miles/ 600 ft (?) elevation
Training begins!... kinda.
It's usually a tradition for my Dad to disappear for a pre-holiday hike. It has been something I've wanted to join in on for many years but, when weighing in dreams of sugar plums vs. the early morning time he wants to get started on one of my days off, the sugar plums win every time.
However, this year our Christmas plan were later than usual so my dad made a deal: crawl out of bed and meet up by noon and we'll go on a short hike around the trails by Salmon River.
I still had to think about it.
What can I say? I enjoy sleeping in during the holidays.
None the less, I met up with him and off we went.
(I'm the one in the blue hat)
Dad had something special in mind he wanted to show me. There were some recent trail maintenance in the area which led to this nice waterfall; just the sort of scenery I love to explore.
I did go a little pic-happy:
I did learn of two things on the trails that day:
1) I'm not as much in hiking shape as I thought I was. I felt tired and sore after something that should have been a short stroll.... not good.
2) I need to go back to GPS 101. It's easy when the thing can tell you where the cache is but trying to track elevation change is not really something the average geocacher needs (unless it's for a puzzle cache). So, for now, elevation is a guesstimate.
It's a start!
