New Goals for 2010 and 2011

There are two challenges that I plan to do within the next few months. One will challenge the mind and the other will challenge my body. Both will challenge my endurance:

November 2010
In November, I will be participating in NaNoWriMo, also known as National Novel Writing Month.

The goal is simple: Write 50,000 words within the month of November.

Implementing is much harder. That is 1,667 words per DAY. Also, consider the fact that I have never written anything more than 10 pages and know that I am in over my head.

But I am determined and, after going to my first NaNoWriMo meeting to meet and chat with fellow participants in the area, I will have a massive support system to help me through this.

So why am I doing this? I have no interest in writing as a career or even as a full-time hobby. But I do want to work on improving my writing skills. That means I need to practice, practice, practice (which means I need to write, write, write). I am hoping with NaNoWriMo, I can hurdle some mental blocks when trying to put pencil to paper.

May 2011
I wanted to do this since I heard about it last spring (thanks D!).

It's called Teams in Training (TNT). Participants have a goal to run/walk a full/half marathon, do a triathlon, or go on a large hiking expedition. TNT will do everything to help achieve this goal. They will coach, train, organize the whole trip and motivate in anyway and everyway they can.

The catch? Participants have to raise money for charity (the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society). It's a win/ win situation.

I will be returning to the Grand Canyon to hike it. :-)

More information on what I will be doing and my process on fund raising and exercising will be on this blog as the months progress.
